PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent toner from leaking from the end part of a cleaning blade performing a reciprocating operation, and also, to prevent the toner from leaking from the end faces of both end parts of an image carrier. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, toner leakage preventing members 36F(R) separately coming into contact with both end faces of the image carrier 1 and both end faces of the cleaning blade 11 are arranged at the inner walls of both end parts of a cleaning apparatus 20, and pressure of the toner leakage preventing member 36F(R) against the cleaning blade 11 end face is set so as not to be below the pressure against the image carrier 1 end face when the blade is oscillated.
