PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection type position detection device for detecting the position of a detection object by receiving by a light receiving element light emitted from a light emitting element and reflected by the detection object, miniaturizable, and having an inexpensive constitution, high detection accuracy and the high degree of freedom of installation. SOLUTION: In this reflection type position detection device for detecting the position of the detection object 6 by receiving by the light receiving element 2 light emitted from the light emitting element 1 and reflected by the detection object 6, an optical diaphragm 3 having a plurality of transmission parts is arranged between at least either of the light emitting element 1 and the light receiving element 2 and the detection object 6. Lenses 4, 5 are arranged between the optical diaphragm 3 and the detection object 6, and the ratio X/Y of the transmission part X in the optical diaphragm 3 has a relation: X/Y≤0.5.
