<p>An upwardly folding umbrella formed in a simple structure and excellent in opening/closing operation. The umbrella comprises an inside cap and a runner fitted to a metal rod slidably in the longitudinal direction, linear ribs pivotally supported on the ferrule side inside cap, linear stretchers pivotally supported on the runner installed on a handle side and pivotally supported on the mounted portions of the ribs, and a circular waterproof sheet covering the ribs and radially fixing the ribs. The mounted portions of the ribs are so formed that, by reducing the distance thereof to the inside cap less than the length of the stretchers, the waterproof sheet can be folded toward the tip of the metal rod by the operation of the runner in the ferrule direction. Also, the inside cap and the runner comprise guide grooves formed in the outer peripheral walls thereof by opening in the ferrule direction. The ribs and the stretchers are pivotally supported in the guide grooves and rotated in the ferrule direction. In addition, a spring is installed between the inside cap and the runner for energizing them to be separated from each other.</p> |
