PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a film roll supporting method and a handling method capable of precluding a damage likely generated when a taken-up film roll is handled by hand, heightening the reliability of the handling work, and enhancing the yield from the manufacturing process. SOLUTION: The film roll supporting method uses a support plate for supporting a film roll consisting of a tubular bobbin and a long stretching film wound on the bobbin and is configured so that a pneumatic chuck having a protrusive engaging means at the forefront is inserted into the bobbin from its one end in such an arrangement with the forefront protruding from the other end of the bobbin, the engaging means is inserted into a hole formed in the support plate and then engaged with the hole, and that the surface of the support plate is abutted fast to the other end of the bobbin by allowing the generated engaged condition to exert a force of drawing in the engaging means into the pneumatic chuck.
