<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce costs of a motor, a control system or a power source, to reduce the installation space of an image forming apparatus, and to extend the service life of a cartridge. <P>SOLUTION: In a non-contact developing system, which is composed of one driving source, a gear array for transmitting driving, and two clutch mechanisms and which is simplified by driving four drums, four developing devices and a carrying belt by one motor, driving for black development is switched by a first clutch mechanism, and driving for color development is switched by a second clutch mechanism, and three modes such as a first state where only the black developing device is driven by cutting off the driving of the color developing device at the time of monochrome printing, a second state where all the developing devices are driven by transmitting the driving to both two clutches at the time of color printing and a third state where both two clutches are disconnected to cut off the driving of all the developing devices at the time of non-printing can be selected. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
