The distance warning device for parking vehicles is attached to the exterior wall (4) of a building, or on enclosures and suchlike. The device has a weatherproof housing, a sensor (6) to detect the distance of especially a reverse parking vehicle (2), and a warning device (5) which is activated by the sensor if a predetermined minimum distance between the sensor and the vehicle is exceeded. The sensor may be an ultrasonic sensor or radar sensor, or a visual sensor. The warning device may be a visual warning such as a blinking or flashing light, or an audible warning.
