Method for detecting the enzymatic activity of a protein tyrosine phosphatase (A) in a biological material by incubating the material, or a preparation from it, with 6,8-difluoro-4-methylumbelliferyl phosphate (I), in aqueous solution and photometric determination of the 6,8-difluoro-4-methylumbelliferyl (II) formed. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Process for identifying compounds that modulate activity of (A) by performing the new method in presence of test compound and comparing results with those from a control; and (2) Compounds identified by process (1). |
