APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR DETERMINING INTERSECTIONS

A system is described for efficiently determining intersections between one or more pathways and one or more objects in a 3D scene. The 3D scene is pre­ processed to generate intersection data identifying intersections between objects within the 3D scene and a plurality of volumes arranged in a pre-defined structure. The intersection data is subsequently used by a pathway processing apparatus to determine an intersection between a pathway projected from a start point and the objects within the 3D scene. The processing to determine the intersection is advantageously reduced by using the generated intersection data to identify a subset of candidate objects which the projected pathway might intersect.
