PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an empty state of an intermediate tank and false detection, when it is determined whether or not an ink tank is empty, by using a sensor for detecting the remaining quantity of ink in the intermediate tank. SOLUTION: This inkjet recording apparatus is provided with a recording head, the ink tank for storing the ink, and an ink channel pipe for leading the ink to the recording head from the ink tank. The intermediate tank for once storing the ink is installed midway through the ink channel pipe. The inkjet recording apparatus is provided with a remaining-quantity-of-ink sensor for detecting whether or not the remaining quantity of the ink in the intermediate tank is a predetermined one or above, and a control part which determines that the ink tank is empty, when the remaining quantity of the ink as the result of detection by the remaining-quantity-of-ink sensor is successively less than a predetermined one for a predetermined period of time.
