PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air bag device capable of performing more gentle deployment regardless of presence or absence of an obstacle and applied with no unnecessary load. SOLUTION: The air bag device is provided with a bag 1 having a gas blowing-in port 12b for deployment; an inflator 6 for blowing-in deployment gas from the port 12b into a bag 1; and a retainer 5 for fixing the bag 1. The bag 1 is provided with a gas discharge port 10a for discharging the deployment gas at a periphery of the gas blowing-in port 12b. Internal pressure of the bag is prevented from becoming higher than the required value by escaping a part of the deployment gas from the gas discharge port 10a to the outside of the bag.
