PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink jet printer in which the gap between all recording heads and a recording medium can be adjusted to be constant. SOLUTION: The ink jet printer 1 comprises a mechanism 3 for carrying a recording medium 99 in a predetermined direction A, and a carriage 6 movable freely in the scanning direction B intersecting the carrying direction of a recording head 7 for ejecting ink toward the recording medium perpendicularly. Gap adjusting mechanisms 10, 20 and 30 capable of adjusting gap between the recording head 7 and the recording medium are provided, respectively, at the opposite ends of the carriage in the scanning direction and at least a position other than the opposite ends.
