The present invention provides a portable device for enhancing circulation i n a limb comprising at least one strap (805) for encircling the limb, a motor (812) and a mechanism (840) driven by said motor (812) for intermittently actuating a first transition from a relaxed state to a strained state of the strap (805) and a second transition from the strained state to the relaxed state. The mechanism (840) includes at least one energy storing element (872 ) operatively disposed between the motor (812) and the strap (805) and at leas t one energy releasing mechanism (880) coupling between the energy storing element (872) and the strap (805).
