A multi-component binder (I) containing 1-20 wt% water-soluble polysaccharide, 0.5-8 wt% inorganic salt, 0-5 wt% dicarboxylic acid salt, 0-10 wt% polyhydric alcohol and 60-95 wt% hydrophilic diluent, also contains up to 15 wt% adhesive. Independent claims are also included for (1) a method for the production of dimensionally-stable moulded parts from natural materials (II) by adding (I) to the material (II) and moulding it under pressure and/or at elevated temperature (2) a method for the production of extruded products from (II) by adding (I) before extrusion (3) a method for the production of non-wovens by adding (I) to (II) .
