<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original reader for accurately detecting a size, a position, and an inclination of an original without the need for additionally installing an original size sensor to eliminate processing time and labor while reducing a cost, eliminating the need for troublesome operations of positioning of the original, and capable of outputting data wherein the inclination of the original is corrected, and to provide a copying machine employing the original reading apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The original reader includes: an image read means 14 provided to the inside of an original platen to read the image of an original on the original platen; an original cover plate 13 on an original reading side of which a regular grating pattern is recorded; an image processing means 16 for collectively processing the original on the original platen read by the image read means at reading of the original and the grating pattern on the image reading side of the original retaining plate as image data; and an original detection means 17 for recognizing original part 19 wherein the grating pattern of the original reading side of the original cover pate is hidden by the original on the basis of the image data processed by the image processing means to detect the size, the position, and the inclination of the original. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
