PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for molding a composite material in which reaction is carried out in a mold cavity during a molding process, and its method. SOLUTION: A method and an apparatus for manufacturing the composite material comprises the constitution in which a part of a mold tooling is formed of a porous air-permeable material, a mold component is not required to be physically discontinued when the material carries out exhaust, and captured air, water and a reaction body of a by-product gas can be subjected to exhaust. As a result of this, a cycle time to manufacture a molded article is shorten, thus a manufacturing cost can be reduced. An application, in which the mold and the molding method are advantageously used, among various applications, is exemplified by the molding of a structural component accommodating a reinforcement such as a friction material, a component of the composite material manufactured by various kinds of synthetic thermosetting resins such as a phenol resin or the like, a solid molded article, and a pre-molded composite structure, a fire brick or the like.
