PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder capable of removing ink adhering to the forward end face of a blade effectively by means of an ink absorber after the ink ejection port surface of a recording head is wiped off, and capable of enhancing durability of the ink absorber and the blade. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder comprises a blade 10 touching the ink ejection port surface of a recording head resiliently and wiping the ink ejection port surface by moving relatively to the recording head in parallel with the ink ejection port surface thereof, an ink absorber 20 for removing ink adhering to the blade 10, and a means for moving the ink absorber 20 between a position for touching the recording head to the forward end face 10a of the blade 10 after wiping and a release position separated above the blade 10 from the forward end face 10a.
