PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact lamp unit composed of a plurality of rod-shaped lamps of which, the plurality of lamps are rationally arrayed so as to save as much dead space as possible. SOLUTION: The lamp unit has three or more rod-shaped lamps each equipped with a bulb having a pinch seal part at either end arrayed so as to be extended in parallel with the lamps coupled at both ends with common coupling members. A plurality of virtual lines connecting each center of the adjacent lamps constitute a regular polygon, and flat faces of pinch seal parts of each lamp are arrayed in parallel with the virtual lines, while straight-tube parts of the bulbs other than the pinch seal parts are in a contact state with each other, or so close to each other that a size of a separated distance of outer periphery faces of the straight-tube parts of the adjacent lamps is to be 1 mm or less.
