PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contact used for a socket enabling stable connection for a long period by reducing abrasion caused by contact with an external electrode of an electronic component. SOLUTION: As for this contact, a comparatively inexpensive low-carbon steel having excellent machinability is used as an upper plunger 3 material, and a needle-shaped projection is provided by cutting on the tip of the upper plunger 3. Cementation treatment is applied onto a surface layer 11 on the tip, and a nickel-plated layer 12 is formed so as to cover it, and a gold-plated layer 13 is formed so as to cover it. The nickel plating increases adhesion of the gold plating, and the gold plating prevents oxidation. Since the cementation treatment is applied onto the surface layer on the tip of the contact, abrasion of the tip of the contactor is reduced, and the lifetime of the contact can be elongated, and thereby stable electrical connection can be acquired for a long period by suppressing increase of a contact resistance.
