METHOD FOR PRODUCING NEW GLYCOLIC ACID

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing glycolic acid without using carbon monoxide as a raw material. SOLUTION: The method for producing the glycolic acid comprises packing an acidic aqueous solution in which formaldehyde or its equivalent is dissolved into a hermetically sealed reactor and carrying out hydrothermal reaction at 200°C to 250°C. The production method enables efficient production of glycolic acid in one process without using carbon monoxide as the raw material. The production method has high value also as a method for carrying out waste liquid treatment of formaldehyde and a method for effectively reutilizing the waste liquid. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
