PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance acceleration response while inhibiting unnecessary use of such a fuel increasing range as to cause degradation of fuel economy during acceleration, in a vehicle equipped with a continuously variable transmission. SOLUTION: A rapid acceleration request is determined when an accelerator pedal opening APO is greater than a predetermined value APOa and a varying speed VAPO is also greater than a predetermined value VAPOa ( S1, 2). If an excess torque is high enough to reach the fuel increasing range at this time, the speed change operation of the continuously variable transmission is delayed (S3, S5). Torque loss due to the speed change operation of the continuously variable transmission becomes relatively small to enhance the acceleration response. On the other hand, if the excess torque is low, the speed change operation is activated without any delay (S4) because a delay in the speed change operation will increase only the engine torque to unavoidably use the fuel increasing range. Thus, degradation in fuel consumption due to frequent use of the fuel increasing range can be suppressed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
