PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength-variable laser device whose frequency is high in accuracy and stability, and which can be stably set at an arbitrary frequency, and moreover set variable in laser frequency as it gets locked at a stable frequency standard. SOLUTION: The wavelength-variable laser device is composed of, at least, a laser ray generating means 3, a light modulating device 5, and a frequency standard means 7. The laser ray generating means 3 generates frequency-variable laser rays in a single mode. The light modulating means 5 modulates laser rays emitted from the laser ray generating means 3 with modulating frequency, whereby a carrier wave and side bands on the higher and lower frequency side of the carrier wave are generated. Furthermore, the frequency of the side bands on the higher frequency side and lower frequency side are locked onto the frequency standard means 7. Modulation frequency added to the light modulating means 5 and the frequency of laser rays generated from the laser ray generating means 3 are controlled at the same time, whereby the frequency of laser rays emitted from the laser ray generating means 3 is controlled.
