PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of setting guard mode or a guard system which does not transmit unnecessary detection information due to the leaving action of a person who finally sets specific guard zone to guard mode in a building etc. in which guard zones are constituted by dividing into specific guard zone, specific shared guard zone which persons using the specific guard zone use in common, a plurality of independent guard zones, and general shared guard zone which persons using the specific guard zone and the independent guard zones use in common. SOLUTION: Detection units which detect abnormality are installed at the guard zones, mode setting units which set guard mode and guard release mode are installed at a plurality of independent guard zones and specific guard zone; and general shared guard zone is set as guard release mode if the specific guard zone is set as guard mode when all independent guard zones and general shared guard zone are set as guard mode.
