The control device is arranged in a vehicle. An encoded program code is stored in the control device. The control device is configured such that it receives a key via an interface and uses the key to decode the program code. The program code can then be executed e.g. to trigger a release element such as for a safety mechanism or for the vehicle ignition. The interface may be configured for diagnosis.
