Cleaning and clearing device for printer cylinders has fresh towel shaft and soiled towel shaft each assigned an electric stage motor with one common control device for the two motors

The device has a fresh towel shaft on which is wound the still unused part of a cleaning cloth, and a soiled towel shaft on which the used part of the cloth is wound up. Each of the two winding shafts (3,5) is assigned an electric stage motor (18,19) for driving the relevant shaft. The two stage motors are controlled through a common control device. The winding shafts can be mounted together with the contact pressure roller (6) which guides the part of the cloth between the shafts in a cassette (13) mounted as one easily changed unit in a printer. The motors are held on a machine frame of the printer so that the shafts are mechanically coupled to the motors when the cassette is mounted in the printer. Independent claim describes method for operating device by determining diameter of fresh towel shaft and soil towel shaft, calculating the transport speeds and setting the cleaning towel in contact with the cylinder to be cleaned.
