An expandable well screen (20 ) having a temporary sealing substance (32). In a described embodiment, a method of installing a well screen in a subterranean well includes the steps of: providing the screen including a temporary sealing substance (32) preventing fluid flow through a wall of the screen (20); positioning the screen (20) in a wellbore (14) of the well; expanding the screen (20) in the wellbore (14); and degrading the sealing substance (32), thereby permitting fluid flow through the screen wall.
