PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a light valve for increasing light utilizing efficiency while a projector is miniaturized.

SOLUTION: An electrooptical substance is held between a pair of element and counter substrates. There are provided with a plurality of pixel electrodes provided on the element substrate, micro lenses provided on the counter substrate corresponding to the pixel electrodes and micro Fresnel lenses provided on the light emission side of the micro lenses on at least one side of the element substrate and the counter substrate.
