PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a SDH / SONET transmission apparatus connected to a network with various communication specifications capable of easily coping with change of a type and a standard of the connected network. SOLUTION: A signal processing section 120 is provided with a SONET signal conversion section in place of an interface section. Further, the interface section 110 is provided with a setting data storage section 115, a SONET signal conversion section 122 of the signal processing section 120 uses a device whose reproduction setting is available, and when the interface section 110 and the signal processing section 120 are connected, the SONET signal conversion section 122 is configured to read setting data stored in the setting data storage section 115 to set the operation. Further, the setting data stored in the setting data storage section 115 of the interface section 110 include a network signal type, and the SONET signal conversion section 122 reads the signal type included in the setting data stored in the setting data storage section 115 and transmits the signal type to an XC section 123.
