PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate difference of an emission direction due to changeover of the type of an X ray. SOLUTION: This X-ray generator 1 is equipped with: an anticathode unit 3 where a plurality of anticathode parts 2 (2A and 2B) for emitting X-rays by collision of thermoelectrons are arranged side by side; a negative electrode 4 for emitting thermoelectrons toward the anticathode parts 2A and 2B on the anticathode unit 3; and a negative electrode movement mechanism 5 for moving the negative electrode 4 in the arrangement direction of the anticathode parts 2A and 2B on the anticathode unit 3 to change over the anticathode part with which the thermoelectrons from the negative electrode 4 collide. The X-ray generator is provided with an adjustment mechanism 7 in which an optical element 6 for emitting incident X-rays R1 and R2 as diffracted X-rays R11 and R12 is installed in an extraction path of the X-rays emitted from the anticathode parts 2, and which aligns the emission direction of the diffracted X-rays to the same direction as those of the incident X-rays emitted from the respective anticathode parts by adjusting the angle of the optical element 6 when the anticathode part with which the thermoelectrons from the negative electrode collide is changed over by moving the negative electrode.
