PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of steering a vessel propelling device, capable of carrying out proper steering control according to an operation state of a ship or navigation environments, and improving steering feeling. SOLUTION: In the method of steering the vessel propelling device, a steering drive device is provided, which turns the vessel propelling device attached to a stern plate about a swivelling shaft. The control physical quantity of the steering drive device is calculated according to a steering operation angle operated by a driver, and the steering drive device is operated on the basis of the control physical quantity.
