A lens barrel improved in operability by a photographer and reduced in the number of parts even provided with a manual operating member. The lens barrel comprises a photographing optical system for forming the optical image of an object, a focus lens group contained in the photographing optical system and moving in a direction parallel to the optical axis of the photographing optical system to permit a change in object distance, a moving means for moving the focus lens group in a direction parallel to the optical axis, a driving means for driving the moving means, a focus ring having a cylindrical shape coaxial with the optical axis of the photographing optical system and being manually rotation-operated for driving the driving means to allow the moving means to move the focus lens group, and a focus mode switching button provided integrally with the focus ring and operated for switching between a state for allowing the manual rotation-operation of the focus ring and a state for prohibiting it.
