<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector which has a light source having a parabolic reflector and can improve the image quality, by increasing the degree of parallelism of the illumination flux radiated to the electro-optical modulator. <P>SOLUTION: A projector has a paraboloidal reflector 114, a light source lamp, including a light-emitting tube 112 arranged near the focus of the paraboloidal reflector 114, a light source device 110A having a lamp case for securing the light source lamp, a 1st lens array 120, a 2nd lens array 130, an illumination system 100A having a superimposed lens 150, liquid crystal displays 400R, 400G, and 400B for modulating the light from the illumination system 100A according to the image information, and a projection optical system 600 for projecting the light modulated by these liquid crystal displays 400R, 400G, and 400B.
