<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device with which a frequency-variable tetrahertz electromagnetic wave corresponding to the difference frequency between pump light and tetrahertz light is generated with a crystal for tetrahertz electromagnetic wave generation being irradiated with the both, the method and device for tetrahertz electromagnetic wave generation with high position precision such that an optical system for phase matching is simplified by putting the pump light and signal light together into one beam on an optical axis for irradiation and the optical axis of an output tetrahertz electromagnetic wave is always fixed irrelevantly to the tetrahertz frequency. <P>SOLUTION: As the crystal for tetrahertz electromagnetic wave generation, GaSe crystal is used, the pump light and signal light are put together by a cube type polarizing element to have nearly the same beam paths, and the optical axis of an output tetrahertz wave is displaced in parallel by a prescribed distance according to variation in angle that the crystal and the optical axis contain to maintain the same optical path at any time. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
