PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of easily acquiring sharp images with a timing, at which a subject moved to the vicinity of the desired photographic distance. SOLUTION: In a distance designating photographing mode, the photographing distance is designated in advance by depressing a shutter start button 61 by setting a pointer to an object existing at the desired photographic distance first, and also the subject is designated by depressing the button 61, by setting the pointer to the desired subject on a live view image, displayed on a back LCD 16A or an EVF 16B before normal photography. Then, a focused state on the subject is held, even when the subject moves, and also the normal photography is automatically performed in timing, when the subject is in allowable distance range according to the designated photographic distance while time-sequentially displaying the live view images acquired time-sequentially by a CCD 21 on the back LCD 16A or the EVF 16B.
