PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seat for the chairs which facilitates the taking out of a slide die for the formation of a retaining piece while keeping the connection part from partially sticking out onto the front of the middle shell to prevent the drop in the cushionability. SOLUTION: In a seat for the chairs which has the middle shell 3 with a cushion body mounted on the front and an outer shell 5, a recess 6 where the upper part of a back rest rod 4 is mounted is provided at the rear central part of the middle shell 3, a cut 15 opened backward and in the direction of the recess is provided at the periphery part 3b surrounding the recess 6 and an engaging piece 15b is arranged protrudingly from the side walls 15a facing each other within the cut 15 while an engaging protrusion 16 which is fitted into the cut and has an engaging pawl 16a engageable with the engaging piece at the front end is provided on the front of the outer shell 5.
