A bondable standoff framing member (10) includes a surface for interaction with structural members (100) of various configurations as well as a surface which accepts a covering material (30). The bondable standoff framing member has a bondable surface that facilitates contact between the structural load bearing member (100) and the standoff framing member via an intermediary bonding adhesive. The present invention also encompasses, in a preferred form, a method of installation and/or utilization of the bondable standoff framing member wherein adhesive is applied between a bonding surface and a load bearing structure and a covering material is installed to the load bearing structure.
