The device has a signal generating device that generates an electromagnetic signal (21) and modifies the phase of the signal. A wheel sensor measures variable state of a wheel, and a transmitter is utilized for the transmission of the signal. A transponder has a receiver resonant circuit that absorbs the transmitted signal to detect an amplitude modulation in the signal caused by the phase change of the transmitted signal. An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring tire pressure.
