Automated analysis of images for liquid crystal displays

There is provided a method of reducing the power required to display a sequence of images on a liquid crystal display, in which images are analysed and a signature produced for each image, and if consecutive images are the same, or substantially the same, then the liquid crystal display is not updated with at least the subsequent image.
