A bearing for the lower roll neck 11 of a vertical rolling mill comprises a sleeve 32 having a tapered bore to receive a like portion 20 of the roll neck which is prevented from rotating within the sleeve by a key 33, the sleeve itself rotating in a bush 42 mounted in a chock 14 which is rigidly fixed to the frame of the rolling mill. The end of the chock furthest from the shoulder 16 is formed into a flange 58 which is concentric with the surface 19 of the roll neck and extends into an annular groove 37 in the sleeve. Additionally, flanges 48, 49 are fastened to the chock and sleeve, respectively, having an oil seal 54 between them; a further seal 52 is also provided between one flange 49 and the shoulder 16 of the roll. Oil may be fed to the bearing from an oil passage 46, through apertures 45 in the bush 42, and returned to the sump via a passage 61 in the chock. Specification 398,332 is referred to. |
