A battery for providing high voltage is composed of cells having a solid electrolyte containing tellurium. In an example silver chloride is fused with 5% of tellurium and the mixture applied to one side of a sheet of silver. Discs are punched from the coated sheet and the coated sides covered with a solution of copper chloride in methyl alcohol containing dispersed graphite. The discs are stacked and placed in an insulating tube, end discs of silver with soldered wires forming terminals. In other examples silver bromide and iodide are used instead of the chloride. Anodes of strontium, barium and rhubidium may be used, and solid electrolytes may comprise tellurium added to the halides of mercury, antimony, bismuth or lead. Oxidizing salts may be employed as cathodes. |
