A method for fermentative production of S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) comprises culturing a bacterial strain obtainable from a starting strain and having increased SAM-synthetase activity, compared to the starting strain, in a culture medium, where the bacterial strain secretes SAM into the culture medium and the SAM is removed from the culture medium.
