Blade damper and method for making same

A turbine engine blade damper (50) for damping vibrations of blades (12) in a turbine engine. The blade damper (50) includes an elongate body (52) extending between a forward end (54) and a rearward end (56) opposite the forward end (54). The body (52) is sized and shaped for receipt within a gap formed between adjacent platforms (22) of the blades (12) so the body (52) frictionally engages the adjacent platforms (22) to dampen vibrations of the blades (12) and to prevent air from passing through the corresponding gap during engine operation. The damper (50) also includes a retainer (70) mounted on at least one of the forward and rearward ends (56) of the body (52). The retainer (70) is sized and shaped for receipt within a recess (72) formed in at least one of the adjacent blades (12) to hold the body (52) between the blades (12). The retainer (70) is sized and shaped to prevent air from passing between the blades (12) and the retainer (70) during engine operation.
