摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To relieve a transmission capacity belonging to a system and a limiting factor of a transmission distance by avoiding signal waveform deterioration caused by cumulative secondary dispersion resulting from tertiary dispersion in an optical fiber. <P>SOLUTION: In an optical wavelength multiplex transmission system for transmitting wavelength multiple signal light through an optical fiber transmission path, wherein a positive dispersion optical fiber having positive secondary dispersion and tertiary dispersion with respect to a signal wavelength and a negative dispersion optical fiber having negative secondary dispersion and tertiary dispersion are made a pair, two pairs or more of them are connected, a cumulative tertiary dispersion value as a whole is set so as to be periodically zero, and a cumulative secondary dispersion value is set so as to be sufficiently small, the optical fiber transmission path is configured such that the cumulative secondary dispersion value becomes positive in a wavelength in which the cumulative tertiary dispersion value is zero, and the central wavelength of a wavelength band of the wavelength multiple signal light is set to a wavelength in which the tertiary dispersion value of the optical fiber becomes zero. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
