The device has a trip component (8) movable from a reset position to a trigger position in the event of a fault current by carrying out a trigger movement and a switch lock for converting the trigger movement into a switching movement of a pawl (1) for moving at least one electrical contact (5). The pawl is mounted on a first axle (14b) and rotatable between an ON position and an OFF position. The switch lock has a restoring lever (7) rotatably mounted on a second axle (14c) for moving the trip component to the reset position by moving from a first to a second position. The device has a first coil spring (11) between the pawl and restoring lever. An independent claim is also included for a method of triggering an installation device if there is a fault current.
