The camshaft (6) has a pentagonal end (20) with gently curved sides and sharply-curved corners fitting into a matching aperture (22) in the rotor (3). Five projections extend from the basic part (7) surrounding the end of the camshaft and their ends (9) contact inner surface (10) of the rim (4) of the stator (2). Working chambers (13-15), filled with oil, are defined between the projections on the rotor and inward projections (5) on the stator. There are grooves (18,19) at the roots of the inward projections.
