The invention provides an intrafallopian catheter system for transcervical introduction of an intrafallopian device. The system comprises a release catheter (164) having a corewire (152) for delivering electrical energy. An intrafallopian device (100) is detachably coupled to the release catheter (164) and is sized to fit within a fallopian tube. The intrafallopian device (100) is detachable in order to remain permanently within the fallopian tube. Electrical energy delivered by the corewire (152) causes scar formation in the fallopian tube which encapsulates the intrafallopian device (100). <IMAGE>
