The circuit has an amplifier device (20) for amplifying a data signal (D) which is applied to an input terminal of the receiver circuit. A control device (60) has a data correlator having an input terminal connected to the amplifier device. The control device measures a data rate of the data signal and sets a bandwidth of the amplifier device such that the bandwidth corresponds to the data rate of the data signal. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a method for operation of a receiver circuit (B) a method for characterization of a data rate of a data signal.
