This invention relates to a latch assembly (1) for locking and unlocking a vehicle door latch. The latch assembly (1) being connected to an energy source. A claw (2) is pivotally mounted around a claw shaft (9) to pivot between at least an open and a closed condition. A pawl (4) is pivotally mounted around a pawl axle (10), and an actuator (6) operatively coupled to said pawl (4). The claw (2) is operatively coupled to said pawl (4). The actuator (6) is substantially made of shape memory alloy (SMA) and arranged to be powered by said energy source. The invention also relates to a vehicle comprising said latch assembly (1).
