The device has a computer (4) arranged at a platform station (9) for determining the position of a vehicle with respect to a platform, from signals received from cameras (2, 3, 14) and calculating data representing the position. A transmission/reception unit (5) transmits the data to a computer (6) on the vehicle. The computer (6) decodes the data to provide indications to a driver using a signaling unit (8) to guide the vehicle. The camera (2) measures the lateral position of the vehicle with respect to the platform. The camera (3) is directed towards the vehicle to obtain a stereoscopic image of the vehicle. The camera (14) measures the longitudinal position of the vehicle with respect to the platform.
