False insertion protection top hat for fluid quick connectors

A fluid quick connector includes a housing (20) which sealingly receives a tubular endform (14) latched in the housing (20) by a movable retainer (10). An axially slidable top hat (34) is mounted in the bore (22) in the housing (20) and has axially extending posts (104,106) with ends (108,110) disposed in the path of movement of the retainer (10) when the top hat (34) is in a biased first position. Biasing members (120) are formed on the top hat (34) to normally bias the top hat (34) to the first position. The biasing members (120) are cantileveredly movable by contact with the inner surfaces of the bore (22) in the housing (20) under forced insertion of the endform (14) into the housing (20) through contact between the annular flange (18) on the endform (14) and the posts (104,106) on the top hat (34) enabling the endform (14) to be fully sealingly inserted into the bore (22) in the housing (20) before the retainer (10) can be moved to the latched position to latch the endform (14) in the housing (20).
