Composition for dyeing keratinic fibers comprises an oxidation dye precursor, an alcohol oxidase, an alcohol-functional substrate for the alcohol oxidase and a direct acid dye other than a quinone dye. The substrate can be (partially) replaced by the substrate if the substrate has at least one aliphatic or aromatic alcohol function. Independent claims are also included for: (1) dyeing keratinic fibers by applying a composition as above until the desired color has developed; (2) kit comprising one compartment containing a composition A comprising an oxidation dye precursor and another compartment containing a composition B comprising an alcohol oxidase, where composition A and/or B contains an alcohol-functional substrate for the alcohol oxidase and composition A and/or B contains a direct acid dye.
